The Story of Prophet Hud

Description:  The importance of seeking God’s forgiveness. Many people may be surprised to learn that Muslims also believe in many of (Injeel)  Gospels of Jesus.  However they also believe that these books were altered, or lost over the course of time. Consequently Muslims believe only what has been confirmed in the Quran or the authentic traditions of Prophet Muhammad. the Prophets found in Jewish and Christian traditions.  Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, amongst many others, all figure prominently in the pages of Quran.  Believing in all of God’s prophets and revealed Books are two of the pillars of faith in Islam therefore; Muslims accept the Torah and the  In the Old Testament reference is made to a descendant of Noah named Eber.  In some traditions, he is called Heber, and known as the father of the Hebrew language. [1]   In Islam however he is known as Hud [2]  and is one of four Arabic prophets, the others being, Saleh, Shua...

Prophet Saleh

Description:  God sent Prophets to all the nations on earth. God said in Quran that Prophets and Messengers were sent to every nation on earth and that they all spread the same message – to worship One God, alone, without partners, sons, or daughters.  The majority of Prophets mentioned in the Quran and the traditions of Prophet Muhammad are recognisable, and considered prophets in both the Jewish and Christian faiths.  Prophet Saleh however, is one of only four Arab prophets and his story is not universally known. “And, indeed We have sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad); of some of them We have related to you their story and of some We have not related to you their story, and it was not given to any Messenger that he should bring a sign except by the Leave of God.” (Quran 40:78) Ad  and  Thamud  were two great civilisations destroyed by God due to their excessive wickedness.  After the destruction of Ad, Thamud succeeded them in power an...

Prophet Jonah

Description:  God is the only source of relief for those in distress. Prophet Jonah [1]   was sent to a community in Iraq.  Renowned Islamic scholar, ibn Kathir calls it Nineveh.  As is the case with all the Prophets of God Jonah came to Nineveh to call the people to worship One God.  He spoke of a God free from any partners, sons, daughters or co equals and implored the people to stop worshipping  idols and engaging in evil behaviour.  However, the people refused to listen, and tried to ignore Jonah and his words of admonishment.  They found Prophet Jonah irritating. The conduct of his people exasperated Jonah and he decided to leave.  He gave a final warning that God would punish their arrogant behaviour but the people jeered and claimed that they were not afraid.  Jonah’s heart filled with anger towards his foolish people.  He decided to leave them to their inevitable misery.  Jonah gathered a few meagre belongings...

The Happiest of All People

Description:  The happiest of all people were the Prophets, in spite of the fact that they suffered more than anyone else. The happiest people who ever lived on the face of the Earth were the Prophets.  This is in spite of the fact that they suffered more than anyone else.  They had to endure severe persecution in delivering the message that God had entrusted them with.  Beyond that, they were subjected to the same difficulties that all other human beings suffer from, like illness, poverty, hunger, and thirst, and often to a greater than usual degree. Once, Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, was suffering from a bad fever such that his forehead was drenched in sweat and he was quite visibly suffering.  One of his Companions said to him: "You are suffering from quite a severe illness." Prophet Muhammad replied: "Yes.  I must endure illness of double the severity of the illnesses that you must endure." [1] He also su...

Story of Prophet Jacob

Description:  His life and message including his patience and trust in God. Prophet Jacob is one of a patriarchal line of prophets sent by God to teach his people to worship One God and to live a righteous life.  The Quran teaches that each and every one of the prophets taught the same fundamental message of submission to One God. "Say (O Muslims): ‘We believe in God and that which has been sent down to us and that which had been sent down to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob and to the twelve sons of Jacob, and that which has been given to Moses and Jesus and that which has been given to the prophets from their Lord.  We make no distinction between any of them, and to Him we have submitted (in Islam).’" (Quran 2:136) "And We bestowed upon him Isaac and a grandson Jacob, and made each of them righteous." (Quran 21:72) "And remember Our slaves, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, (all) owners of strength (in worshipping Us) and (also) of religious understanding....

Story of Prophet Shuaib

Description:  The story of his life, his patience and perseverance, and the destruction of his people. Prophet Shuaib, known in Biblical literature as Jethro, is one of only four Arab prophets mentioned by name in the Quran.  Many scholars believe that Shuaib was the elderly man who offered Moses safety, security and the hand of one of his daughters in marriage, when he fled Egypt.  There are no authentic sources either confirming or denying this, however the Quran tells us that Prophet Shuaib was from the people of Midian, and it was there that Moses found refuge. Combing the stories of both Prophets Moses and Shuaib we find that Prophet Shuaib was one of the few truly good and upright men of Midian.  The people as a whole were bandits and robbers, deceiving one another and those who had the misfortune to pass through their townships and nomadic camps.  For the most part they led a happy and prosperous life due to the bounties from God.   Howev...

Prophets of the Quran: An Introduction

(part 1 of 2) Description:  Belief in the prophets of God is a central part of Muslim faith.  Part 1 will introduce all the prophets before Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, mentioned in the Muslim scripture from Adam to Abraham and his two sons. The Quran mentions twenty five prophets, most of whom are mentioned in the Bible as well.  Who were these prophets? Where did they live? Who were they sent to? What are their names in the Quran and the Bible? And what are some of the miracles they performed? We will answer these simple questions. Before we begin, we must understand two matters: a.       In Arabic two different words are used,  Nabi  and  Rasool .  A  Nabi  is a prophet and a  Rasool  is a messenger or an apostle.  The two words are close in meaning for our purpose. b.       There are four men mentioned in the Quran about w...

The Ones Who Perished

(part 1 of 2): The Fate of the People of Noah, Sheba, Iram and Salih Description:  Intriguing accounts of some of the past nations mentioned in the Quran and their prophets, along with various archaeological evidence supporting it. “Each one of them We seized for their crime: against some We sent a violent tornado, some were caught by a mighty blast; some we caused the earth to swallow up, and some We drowned It was not God Who wronged them, but they who wronged themselves.” (Quran 29:40) Noah and the Ark An archeological study found the above 500 foot-long boat-shaped formation atop Mount Judi [1] , some 20 miles south of Mount Ararat (where the Bible places the Noah’s Ark).  It has horizontal deck-support timbers at consistent intervals and evenly-spaced indentations resembling decaying rib timbers.  Natural causes do not make such symmetrical formations! “And it was said: ‘O earth!  Swallow up your water,’ and ‘O sky!  Withhold (your rain).’ ...
