Darwinism Versus the Octopus: An Evolutionary Dilemma

Description:  The presence of similar complex structures in  unrelated  creatures poses a great dilemma for evolutionists. What’s the difference between evolutionary theory and an octopus? Well, one is a slippery, color-changing escape artist that can get out of any tough situation and the other is an aquatic invertebrate. But seriously.  One of the biggest problems for neo-Darwinists is the origin of complex structures that appear suddenly in nature or the fossil record.  My friend  Dr.  Stephen Meyer talks about this in his wonderful book, "Darwin’s Doubt."  He points out how, in the so-called "Cambrian Explosion," the majority of animal phyla on earth appeared suddenly, and without obvious ancestry—almost as if they "exploded" onto the scene out of nowhere. But for evolutionary biologists who adhere to strict naturalism,  living  animals pose an even greater problem: Things like powered flight, the so-called "camera eye," an...

God’s Being & the Limits of Human Imagination

Description:  Human imagination is limited since it is based on what it observes and experiences, and this is why our imagination cannot fully grasp the concept that God is timeless and eternal, without beginning or end. Everything in our limited experience must have a beginning and end.  We ourselves are born and we ultimately die.  This is the case with our parents and forefathers as well as with our children and descendants.  Such relationships permeate creation.  Some people, due to intellectual weakness or simplicity, assume that everything must be comparable to their own past experience.  They rely on the imagination, which is really only capable of visualizing that which has in one way or another already been experienced.  This is why the imagination is incapable of grappling with absolutes and with universal concepts.  Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, was referring to the limits of human reason w...

Fine-Tuning of the Universe − Summarized

(part 1 of 2) Description:  A two article summary of fine-tuning by design, an argument from physics for the divine creation of the universe.  The original articles with detailed citations can be read  here .  This article will summarize the types and examples of fine-tuning. What is Fine Tuning? Over the past century, scientists have discovered that if certain properties of the universe were changed very slightly from what they are, we would not be here.  They have to be within a very narrow range for our universe to make life possible and be habitable.  The universe is fine-tuned for the existence of intelligent life with a complexity and delicacy that literally defy human comprehension.  Types of Fine-Tuning 1.       Fine tuning of the laws of nature. 2.       Fine-tuning of the constants of physics. 3.       Fine tuning of the initial conditions of the uni...

Fine-Tuning of the Universe

(part 1 of 8): Physical Laws Description:  Fine-tuning by design is an argument from physics and cosmology for the divine creation of the universe.  It will be shown that discoveries of physics and cosmology in the last fifty years strongly support the existence of God and the divine creation of the universe.  This article will describe the fine-tuned elegant laws of nature. What is Fine-Tuning? Over the past century, scientists have discovered that if certain properties of the universe were changed very slightly from what they are, we would not be here.  They have to be within a very narrow range for our universe to make life possible and be habitable.  The universe is fine-tuned for the existence of intelligent life with a complexity and delicacy that literally defy human comprehension.  The sensitivity of the ‘habitability’ of the universe to small changes is called ‘fine-tuning.’ This was recognized about 60 years ago by Fred Hoyle who was ...
